Wonderful Whitby

A Much Needed Trip Back to Yorkshire!

After more than 5 years living overseas it's been fantastic to be back home again but our list of places to see is huge so I thought it would be nice to start with a few trips up to my childhood stomping ground and soak up the fresh North Sea air.

Whitby is a salt of the earth northern fishing village but its claim to fame is being the home of Dracula and a key inspiration for Bram Stoker. Another notable resident was Captain Cook! pretty impressive for a small town that today capitalises on its local heroes and heritage.

The architecture is incredibly varied and the town is dominated by the magnificent Whitby Abbey, which still looks imposing and dramatic despite being destroyed by Henry VIII hundreds of years ago.

Any visit to Whitby is not complete without a trip across the moors and we always like to stop at Goathland to see a few steam trains and enjoy a cream tea.

I hope you enjoy a few snapshots of my trip and make it up to Whitby at some point, the North is full of coastal gems like this and a real must see if you're planning a staycation.
